  • all of them. well, not at the same time - I have experience with many professional grade cinema cameras and gear, but currently my daily driver is a Blackmagic pocket cinema camera 6k, usually with a sigma 18-35 reporting for duty.

  • my experience is this: no matter how difficult or daunting a project may seem, when you assume something is unfeasible, it’s dead in the water immediately. the greatest part about creativity is how much of it is fueled by engineering solutions to so-called “barriers” and limitations. so in that regard, i’d say no. there is nothing I cannot do.

A couple years ago I downloaded an app called mi:nu:ti:ae that prompts you to take a random photo once a day for 1440 days. When the prompt hits, you are given one minute to open the app and capture whatever is in front of you. At the same time, someone else on the other side of the planet also gets the prompt, and you both have 60 seconds to look at each others image. A few days ago I finished my 1440 day cycle and was finally given an archive of every image I took. It’s quite fascinating because these are completely unplanned and un “posed” - the app forces you to capture your surroundings as they are. Looking back on the last few years of my life through these snippets was interesting, to say the least! Anyways I recommend checking it out, haven’t really seen anything else like it out there.

I wrote and recorded this song in 2020. It’s called “nothing can stay” - it’s about being desperate for things to stay the same when the year has other plans. It was initially released only on Bandcamp as a part of a record released that year called “what was really going on (in 2020)” This is a little visual I made to announce that this song and others from the record are now available on all streaming services under my name “michael madrid” or you can visit the link in my bio. It snowed last night!!!! I am but a simple desert lizard who thinks snow is really cool and exciting. Waking up to sparkly streets and hi-vis shovelers was 🥺 beautiful. I hope to explore a little further and maybe capture more footage once I warm up from my camera laden excursion and finish some household errands. 2021 work continued: I made this (short) short film for @miseenscent - they’re an awesome Brooklyn based candle company that bases each scent on film genres. I approached the challenge of emulating the French new wave look by maintaining the spirit of rebellious freedom and playfulness in editing and camera work that is paramount to the genre. The concept I went with is kind of a meta showcase of a filmmaker trying to capture the essence of this candle in their habitat, in this case my apartment and the bodega near my house. Anyways, y’all should check out @miseenscent because their candles smell amazing and last a long time! First up, this promo i made for @morning_silk ‘s single “Don’t Try Hard Enough” - we took a day trip to fort tryon and marveled at the beautiful architecture while dodging a gender reveal photo shoot to make this. Here’s a weird little thing/animation I made using footage I’ve taken recently. I found an old beat I made with a borrowed OP-1 and set it as the basis for a music visualizer build using blender which was [really fun].
